How-to: Create a Raw Material Formula for your product.

In this article we describe what a Raw Material Formula is, and explain the different parts needed to create one. Lastly we explain the difference between a Raw Material Formula and an INCI Formula

What is a Raw Material formula?

A Raw Material Formula is a specific declaration of all raw materials used in your cosmetic product. For the Raw Material Formula we require the raw material name (also known as the Tradename) exactly as you bought it by the supplier, raw material code, supplier name, and percentage of the raw material in the final product.

What is a Raw Material name (Tradename)?

The raw material name you should include is the name of your raw material exactly as you buy it from your supplier. This is also known as the Tradename of a raw material. This is to ensure that SkinConsult knows the documents you deliver are indeed for your raw material.

What is a Raw Material internal code and why do I need one?

A Raw Material internal code is an uniqe internal code that distinguishes every raw material from another one. Large factories have complex Raw Material internal coding systems, whereas a start-up might not have any raw material internal codes at all.

The SkinApp recognizes raw Raw Material internal codes irregardless of spelling mistakes in the raw material name, which is very convenient. This makes it easy for the raw material (and the respective documents) to be re-used for your next project at SkinConsult!

How can I make a Raw Material internal coding?
A Raw Material internal coding system does not have to be complicated, as long as you ensure every raw material has a unique one. If you are only planning on selling one cosmetic product with 10 raw materials, you can simply make your code "0-10".

What if you have more than 1 product? One recommendation we have is grouping similar products together, for example a body lotion and a hand cream. The raw materials in the base formula can be labeled B1-B5, and you can give each raw material a different internal code per product. Do make sure that the Internal Code stays consistent when a Raw Material is used in different products.

What is the difference between an INCI Formula and a Raw Material Formula.
INCI formula:

An INCI formula is a specific declaration of all ingredients used in your endproduct. The INCI formula is the basis of the INCI declaration or ingredients list, which you put on the label or artwork of your final product.
An INCI declaration requires the ingredients INCI name, and the percentage of this INCI in your endproduct. The sum of the INCI declaration has to be 100%.

Raw Material formula:
A raw material formula is a specific declaration of all Raw Materials used in your cosmetic product. This is different from the INCI declaration, as 1 raw material may contain more than 1 INCI.

For the raw material formula we require the raw material name exactly as you bought it by the supplier, raw material code, supplier name, and percentage of the Raw material in the final product.
