What is toxicology?

How does SkinConsult determine the toxicological safety of my product? 
Toxicology is an internal check at SkinConsult, you do not need to upload a toxicological document nor do you have to perform a test with a 3rd party. 
What we do need is complete Raw Material Protocol. We use this data to perform a series of calculations whereby we check the final Margin of Safety (MoS) value. This MoS value has to be at least 100 in order for your product to be safe for your consumer. 

What can affect the MoS value?
There are certain factors that can affect the MoS value, for example:

• Where your product is applied (e.g on the lips is more exposure than on the face)
• Whether your product is stay-on or-rinse off
• The amount of applications per day
• The target consumer (e.g a product intended for pregnant women or children under 3 are generally more restricted than an adult man).

How will I know if my product is (not) safe? 
After we have performed formulation checks, you will receive feedback in the SkinApp. This feedback will state if your product is safe for consumption. If the feedback deems that your product is not safe, it will also give the reason why and a recommendation how to make it suitable and safe for your target consumer.

What do I do if my product has been determined unsafe by SkinConsult?
SkinConsult will always explain the reasoning why your product is not safe, and which specific  ingredient has a MoS of less than 100.

SkinConsult will give advice on what to do to ensure your product is safe for use in cosmetics. Some example include:

• Decreasing the concentration ingredient which has a MoS <100
• Asking more specifically about the product type (application zone and frequency may change) and changing this in the SkinApp
