When do I need an IFRA certificate?
IFRA certificates are essential for the safety of perfumes and essential oils.
What is IFRA?
IFRA stands for the International Fragrance Association. As the formula for perfume are trade secrets, IFRA has developed a Code of Practice to manage the safe use of fragrance. The IFRA Standards ban, limit or set criteria for the use of certain ingredients, based on scientific evidence and consumer insights. Their purpose is to promote the safe use of fragrance ingredients and mixtures.
They do this by presenting allergens that are not allowed or restricted that every perfume and essential oil supplier must adhere to by giving an IFRA statement, and ensuring safe use concentrations.
What are IFRA statements and why are they needed?
IFRA statements are documents provided by perfume and essential oil suppliers which indicate how much their raw material can be present in the final product.
They make these type of documents to ensure safety, while the formula of the perfume composition remains secret. The IFRA statements contains information on the maximum allowed concentration per producttype category.
SkinConsult uses IFRA statements to check the maximum level of use in the final product against the amount you used in the final product. These IFRA statements will be added to the raw material documentation.
Your PIF also requires an allergen statement, please see the this
So, IFRA statements are mandatory to ensure safety of use for perfumes, aroma's and essential oils.
What IFRA statements does SkinConsult Accept?
